Open source server-side code?

Hi,

I was wondering if the server-side web service code will be open-sourced at any point? I'm quite interested in how it is able to disambiguate place names (e.g. Madrid, Spain instead of Madrid, USA).

I'm guessing it uses population and feature class (and similar) to identify the most likely candidate?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt

Population, feature code and others are used to sort the search result. Placename disambiguation is used in the natural language processor "RSS to GeoRSS" and is based on other places and the distance in the text between the places among other factors.

Which part of the source code will be released and when it will be released depends on the geonames users and contributors.

Regards

Marc,

Many thanks for your reply.

Keep us updated on open sourcing the RSS to GeoRSS. I would be particularly interested in the place name disambiguation methods that have been used, as it is something I am looking into at the moment. I would welcome any advice you may have - software that was used, tecbniques, best practice, etc.

Re:Open source server-side code?

Hi all, any news regarding the source code for the WS?

I'm starting as a WS developer and I want to deploy in Soaplab2. I'm basically trying to learn by example how to do it and since they use this WS in one of their examples I'd like to see how it's done.

Thanks for your time and help,

Cheers,

Juan.
