Feature help

Hello everybody.

First of all, congratulations for such an excellent work. Very good.

When I found geonames db, I started analyzing it, because I don't need all the information contained there. I have some questions about the way data is organized. When I look for a village, I see that basically 2 solutions appear: one for PPL and another one for AMDx.
I would like to build a database containing all the cities and villages of the world, with this hierarchy-information:

COUNTRY / REGION / CITY or VILLAGE

So, which feature should I use to filter the data: PPL (and PPLC, and any other...?) or AMDx?

Thank you,

Xagutxu

you should filter for the ppl(..) records, they are villages and cities. The adm records are administrative divisions (province, municipality etc)

Feature help

OK, thank you, I'll do it in this way.

Another question: I have seen in the "allCountries.txt" file this entry:

77772	As Sūdah	As Sudah	As Sauda,As Sawda',As Sawdā',Es-Sudah,Es-Sūdah,Sawda',Sawdā',Suda,Sudah,Sūdah	15.95861	43.78083	P	PPL	YE	YE	16	2913 0 1990	Asia/Aden	1997-02-12

And in "alternateNames.txt" there are these files with the code "77772":

22736	77772 As Sauda
22734	77772 As Sawdā'
22738	77772 Es-Sūdah
22733	77772 Sawdā'
22737	77772 Suda
22735	77772 Sūdah

So, there aren't all the alternative names that appear in the column of the allCountries.txt (there are 10 there, 6 in "alternateNames.txt" file). Why...?

Thank you again,

Xagutxu

the other four are automatically transliterated into ascii. Example: Es-Sudah comes from Es-Sūdah
