Planet Earth

I have created a toponym for the planet Earth :

http://www.geonames.org/maps/geonameId=6295630

It will be used for the Geonames Semantic Web to allow browsing from one place up the complete hierarchy (admin2-> admin1-> country -> continent -> earth) and then down again using the children of the planet. This way all continents are interconnected via the parent toponym Earth.

At the moment Earth is located at my place. Bernard suggested to place it at the Royal Greenwich Observatory

Any other suggestions?

United Nations designation is a bad idea in my opinion. The world itself is first and foremost a geographic entity, not a political entity. If this project were the "Political Map project" then perhaps that could be debated (although it should be noted that the UN charter itself does not disavow the sovereignty of nations and therefore should not be considered a supreme world government of some sort).

I think coordinates 0,0 is a nice idea.
