Geonames weather returning nothing

When trying to use the nearby weather service i find that it returns results based on lat long.
When testing this, i got a valid result for London, but not Tokyo, New York or Paris.
UPDATE : London doesnt seem to be working either.

Here are the queries i'm using.

I would expect it to find the closest location to the Lat/Long provided.
http://ws.geonames.org/findNearByWeatherXML?lat=40.7&lng=-74.005 (New York)

http://ws.geonames.org/findNearByWeatherXML?lat=51.508&lng=-0.1255 (London)

http://ws.geonames.org/findNearByWeatherXML?lat=35.689&lng=139.6916 (Tokyo)

http://ws.geonames.org/findNearByWeatherXML?lat=48.8534&lng=2.34 (Paris)

Is there a more consisten way to retrieve weather for major city, based on a Lat/Long provided by geonames in their list of cities.
