download data same as website data?

First of all I would like to thank you for this great service!

I have been using the service for a couple of days now and started to work through the country’s “Administrative Divisions” with help of “admin1Codes.txt” to do some translations into Dutch. I am aware of the possibilities of absolute “Administrative Divisions” in there.

Still, when doing this I noticed that the “Administrative Division” information on the website is not in line with what is provided in the download section.

For example: for Venezuela I see all the correct “Administrative Division” names on the website http://www.geonames.org/VE/administrative-division-venezuela.html but in the download file for Venezuela FIPS VE.17 is referring to Isla Margarita instead of Nueva Esparta which is shown on the website. Also the "Distrito Federal" is mentioned twice (VE.10 + VE.25).

Am I looking in the wrong file to get the correct administrative divisions?

Many thanks for your help![url]

There are some intermediate tables to help with synchronization of different sources. The admin division list you mention is one of them. The final stuff is in the download directory.

Best

Hi Marc,

Thank you for your fast reply, very much appreciated!

What I am looking for is the correct Admin1 file as you mention in your last reply in the following post without the absolute names:

http://forum.geonames.org/gforum/posts/list/852.page

When I check the individual country files I see corresponding admin1 numbers that should not be there, e.g. point to a FIPS code that should be absolute..

I am sorry, probably missing something :)

Thanks again for your help!
