a question regarding Timezone web service

Hello guys,

I am working on an application that requires calculating the time zone for a specific location which coordinates are read form a GPS device. I saw this web service called Timezone and it works pretty fine, but the problem is that the target device where the application is going to run doesn't have internet connectivity, so is there any possible way to know how the Timezone web service works? I really would appreciate that :)

Thank you.

I have asked a similar question here:
http://forum.geonames.org/gforum/posts/list/1596.page

The webservice has polygons it uses to determine the timezone for a coordinate. These polygons aren't publicly available.

Is your application going to be used anywhere in the world? Or do you just need a subset of timezones?

Re:a question regarding Timezone web service

You'll end up having to draw polygons to represent each timezone. Would be much less effort if you only needed to do one country.

Another option:
* the device contains a list of Cities and timezones
* use the GPS to give the user a list of cities to pick from
