Hi Suja

I have added some text to the example page :
"Enter a place name in the search box and press the search button. You will then get a list of matching place names. Then you click on one of the place names and the map above will display the chosen place."

I suggest you have a look at the code of the search example and afterwards it should not be too difficult to modify it to use the postal code json web service instead of the search webservice.

Re:need for help

Suja

If you want to search for place names and postal codes you have to use the parameter 'placename' instead of the parameter postal code :

http://ws.geonames.org/postalCodeSearch?placename=kent&maxRows=10&style=FULL

For UK postal codes we only have the first four letters :
http://www.geonames.org/postalcode-search.html?q=so51

The full UK postal codes are not freely available and we cannot use them.

Hi Suja

I was posting the link to the postal code search page to show you what information is available in the geonames database. In the JSON example you have to type 'so51' to make it work. For your users you have to extract the first 4 characters to make it work, or the prefix extraction could be done on the geonames server side.

Hi Suja

Search for country names is already included in the example :
http://www.geonames.org/maps/json-googlemaps-example-postal-code.html

try searching for 'Switzerland 9011' and it will bring you to Switzerland. Or try the same postal code 'Norway 9011' and it will bring you to Norway.

If you want to have a drop down list, you can use the parameter country. Please read the documentation for details :
http://www.geonames.org/export/#postalCodeSearch
