Webservice request:: findNearbyBoundsJSON

Hi,

I hope this topic is appropriate here...

I would love to see a new geonames webservice called findNearbyBoundsJSON where I could send 2 points (NorthEast and SouthWest) and the webservice returns all geonames within those bounds. The results should be filtered by feature class and code much the same as the existing findNearby webservice.

My maps are typically rectangular and using radius gives me only points that fit within the circular radius of a given point. This makes it very difficult for me to optimize (and reduce) the amount of calls I make to the webservice resulting in wasted bandwidth and the visitor's time...

Thanks for your consideration...

The Problem is that the boxed could be large and the records should be sorted by some criteria. We have done this for the 'cities' service. Where the records are sorted by some relevancy criterion and only the most relevant cities are returned. We are ,however, not very happy with the performance and it would be difficult to do it generically for kind or combinations of feature codes.

Best
