codepage character encoding - I can't see some of the characters on Windows

Hi All,
I understand about codepage (character encoding) and I am using capable text editors (ultraedit and editplus) for windows to browse the various files available for download.

Yet, I am still unable to view some of the characters. It is very apparent in the file: admin1Codes.txt where there seem to be many instances of characters that aren't displaying properly.

I have tried, for good measure, changing my screen font settings in my editor to no avail and I don't think that is the real problem.

Hoping someone can shed some light on this issue.

Hi Rein

If you are using a UTF8 capable editor and have opened the file with the proper encoding and still see some wrong characters for asian countries then it might be that you haven't installed all the required fonts on your PC. On Windows you can install them with the control panel->regional settings->languages. The data is already included in the windows distribution it just needs to be manually installed, you won't need any CD.

Best
