Hi, Marc:
Congratulations for the fantastic graphic job you and your people have developed in GeoTree!!
It's very easy and useful.

Some time ago that I am not connected here. I hope to come in often.

One question about GeoTree, please:
I have been doing tests with data I get everyday from your download page, and I think all information offered by GeoTree can be obteined with data of dump (initial file and daily modifications), using the information of the columns cod_admin1, cod_admin2, cod_admin3 and cod_admin4.
Is this so? Or is there somedata in GeoTree, not available in data dump?

Thank you for all and regards.
Isa

Hi Isa

Yes, nearly all information is in the dump files, with the exception of the neighbours for administrative divisions. The PPLX children of the PPL are also not yet in the dump directory. Those have been reversed geocoded and the information so far is in the dump, but reverse geocoding is not perfect and we will have to find a way to make it editable which PPL a PPLX belongs to.
The ppl-pplx file is here for the time being :

Hi Marc:

I have already got this file with ppl-pplx ids. I have already put it in my database. This file is always the same, or occasionally you incorporate something more data?

I have read the post about this, and really, the city sections and area is a complicated issue. If I find some error, I will tell you.

Thanks again and regards,
Isa

I have rerun the reverse geocoder some days ago. If you have get the file some time ago then it might be better to get the newest version.

Hi, Marc:
I got this file yesterday, so it is last version.

Another question about GeoTree:
I have seen that when I expand some locations, I only can see 200 child items. For example, if I want see the city of Zaragoza (Spain), when I put his url: http://geotree.geonames.org/3104324/, the tree reachs only to the Province of Zaragoza (ADM3), but the ADM4 item doesn't appear, and then, the P.PPLA item Zaragoza (3104324) doesn't appear.

Is there another way for seing this?

Thanks a lot and regards,
Isa

Hi Isa,

you are right, there were a limit of 200 children per item.
This has been fixed.

Your query should now work as expected :
http://geotree.geonames.org/3104324/

Now you can display weather (at least local temperature) for ADM1 and ADM2 places.

Just add weather parameter to geotree URL :
&weather=C to display temperature in Celsius
&weather=F for Fahrenheit

Weather in Spain :
http://geotree.geonames.org/?id=ES&weather=C

Temperature is retrieved from closest weather station using GeoNames webservice :
findNearByWeatherJSON
http://www.geonames.org/export/JSON-webservices.html#findNearByWeatherJSON

Warning : there is an additional cost of one webservice call by place,
so this may slow down GeoTree. Use with care.

To disable weather option use : &weather=none
