There are only 3 admin1codes left for Belgium on http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/admin1CodesASCII.txt

BE.BRU Brussels Capital Brussels Capital 2800867
BE.WAL Walloon Walloon 3337387
BE.VLG Flemish Region Flemish Region 3337388

There are more provinces in Belgium, and they also used to be listed here...where is the rest?

The Belgium Provinces are modelled as ADM2.

Hi Marc,

Thanks! What does that mean exactly? I don't see "ADM2" anywhere on this page: http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/admin1CodesASCII.txt

of course not. The adm2 are not in the adm1 file but in the adm2 file or in the allcountries file.

Looking through the populated place entries for Belgium, none of them have values for Admin1code or Admin2 code.

Some have values in the Admin3Code and Admin4Code columns, but I can't find the data to create Admin3 and Admin4 tables.

Can anyone help with this?

Since posting my last message, I found the answer on another forum.

The Admin1 and Admin2 codes for all countries are stored in their own files: 'admin1CodesASCII.txt' and 'admin2Codes.txt'.

The Admin3 and Admin4 codes ARE also available, but are stored within the individual country files. The Admin1 and Admin2 codes are also duplicated in the same location.

To construct a lookup table for Admin3 administrative areas, load the relevant country file then do a query such as:

SELECT NAME, ADMIN3_CODE
FROM my_country_file
WHERE FEATURE_CLASS='A' and FEATURE_CODE='ADM3'
