The new look Geonames may well be wonderful for most people, but it is irritating constantly to have to deal with the automatic highlighting of administrative areas, and the automatic display of place details if the cursor happens to hover over the name. In particular, it is a great pity that the option to have just the satellite image, without any text, has been dropped. For those of us who search for old structures (eighteenth-century fortifications, etc) the old facility was a boon because it was possible to look at physical features in detail without their being obscured by a name, or road, or other feature. It is also very irritating, when trying to deselect more than one of the layers, to have to bring the whole menu up every time. It seems one can only deselect one layer at a time. The new, larger display area is, however, welcome.

Still exists : mouse over Satellite button top-right then uncheck the Legend box.
