Hi,

there is one thing that bothers me a lot. I almost can't sleep

Is there anywhere in the geonames original name of a location (cities interest me the most)?
I though that "default" name will be the solution, but in some cases English name is used.

I create a tool which will display list of the cities in Europe and I want to use their original names.

thanks in advance

Hi Pawel

The toponym name (main name) is in English or a name which can be considered 'international'.

For the local name you have to find the language and get the name in this language. For the local language you can use the first language(s) in the countryInfo txt file. For countries like Switzerland with different language regions finer granularity might be required though. Cities on language borders sometimes have two or more local languages.

Regards

Marc
