Hi,

Is there a way to query the web service and retreive a (previously fetched) geoname by the geonameId?

There is a service to get a geoname by its geonameId. The service is called 'get' :
http://ws.geonames.org/get?geonameId=1

This service is part of a series of services to create, update and move a geoname via a webservice.

An other way to access the geoname information with the geonameId is via the geonames semantic web. The output for the semantic web is in rdf format.

Example :
