Hello,
I've noticed that today adminCodesASCII file contains much less data than adminCodes (more tha 1000 records missing). For example there is no IR.25 admin code which used to be there previously (and it is present in adminCodes). Can it happen that it is something wrong with today file?
Best Regards,
Dmitry

It has always been like this. The admin2Codes.txt file includes obsolete codes.
Best

Hi Marc,
Thanx for your answer. I did not notice it before. Does it mean that cities1000 intentionally include obsolete cities? For example geonameids: 32723, 116402, 135423, 138025 have country code IR and admin1 code 25. But there is no IR.25 admin code in adminCodesASCII. Does it mean that IR 25 is obsolete? Shall the cities be changed as well?
Best Regards,
Dmitry

In an ideal world the cities file would not include any obsolete codes. When the code change is a simple change than we can easily update the code, but if a region has been split into separate regions than we don't know which of the new codes is the right one, so we keep the old one as this information is still better than nothing.
You can help us figuring out what has hapend in this particular case and we can fix it.

Hi Marc,
I wont help with IR (I am not for Iran) but I certainly can help with Russia. Now in Russia 366 cities (from cities1000) have incorrect admin1 code. I've checked - most of them are from Moscow region. It used to be RU.47 but disappeared for some reasons from admincode files. Now in admincodeASCII file we have RU. code for Moscow region and 4 cities with such code which are not from Moscow region. I do not know why RU.47 region have been removed (there was no changes in adm sctructure) but I guess the best way would be to get it back.
If it helps I can also investigate other Russian cities with incorrect admin codes.
Best Regards,
Dmitry
