Hi Marc,

I would like to start promoting geonames.org, at least with a backlink from my site's footer, but I thought what if you guys would setup an affiliate program for the paid geonames part?

Hi Giorgio

There is an affiliate program for application developers leveraging the commercial web services and including it in an application. If users of this application sign up for the commercial GeoNames web services the proceeds will be shared with the application developer.

Thanks Marc, so just to recap, I need to subscribe to the commercial services to be able to promote it as an affiliate?

you don't need to sign up. only your users need to sign up. it is meant for applications as we wouldn't know how to track which user is coming from where and it would be exaggerated to think about this kind of affiliation scheme.

So as I understand, at the moment it is not possible to track conversions from a link on my website, where users subscribe to develop an application (different than mine)?

It would be great to have sg like this because in this case we could really get some sales people on board and get some vested interest from many current users in promoting geonames

There are some very reliable affiliate management solutions, one of them is idevaffiliate I am familiar with.
