Hello,

For GeoID 3129136 I am trying to set Ávila as the preferred name for ES and I get you are not allowed to update this alt name.

When I try to delete Ávila de los Santos as an ES alias (which is actually the name of a church) I get: the name is locked and may only be updated by users with a user level >= 2. Your current user level is 1

Can you increase my user level? ID is pc_ware_be?

Thanks.

Hi Breach

I have marked them as 'colloquial' names, and I have also marked 'Ávila' as preferred name.
I think it is a bit early to increase your user level since you have not yet made many updates. It is probably better to get more experience with the data and modelling concept.

Best Regards

Marc

Hi Marc,

I have the same problem as Breach. I gather from your comment that not ALL locations require a higher user level. Is this correct?

Given that many people wanting to contribute are probably trying to scratch a particular itch, it seems this policy may be turning away a large number of potential contributors. A system in which all users can contribute, but some edits require moderation would be a lot more sensible. </rant>

In any case, I was hoping to add time zones for the following locations, ALL of which are locked and it looks like the time zone was removed accidentally by the same user during other edits. They should all be in Asia/Shanghai:

  • Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, GeoID 6301392
  • Hohhot Baita International Airport, GeoID 6301355
  • Kashgar Airport, GeoID 6301394
  • Kunming Wujiaba International Airport, GeoID 6301378

    Cheers,
    John Carney.

most locations should not require a higher user level, it depends on the relevance of a feature.

Tagging onto this post. While trying to add a new location, I receive the following error: "The record you want to edit is locked for updates for userlevel1"

Can someone help us with this issue?

    Cheers,

Hello. First: thanks to all for Geonames! Very useful.

When we get this error ('the name is locked and may only be updated by users with a user level >= 2. Your current user level is 1'), is it better to email the correction to info@geonames.org or to post it here?

    I'll try the latter.

http://www.geonames.org/11550055/prince-of-wales-hyder-census-area-alaska.html is correctly a county in Alaska ... but the name should not end with ', Alaska'.
