Hello.

I'd like to start by thanking GeoNames for this wonderful resource.

Sorry if this is a redundant question, but I seem to be unable to find an in-order listing of the columns in the cities5000 file.

The page here ( http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/ ) contains schema information regarding the geoname and alternate names table. Is there similar information for the cities5000 file somewhere?

I've looked through the forum and there are some extremely helpful posts regarding importing all of the geonames tables into SQL ( http://forum.geonames.org/gforum/posts/list/732.page for example).
From such posts I can determine the schema of these tables, but unfortunately the cities5000 file doesn't seem to be included there either!

Cheers,
yascha

Hi Yascha

The cities5000 table is an extract from the geonames table. The columns are exactly the same.

Cheers

Marc

Oh wonderful!
Thanks for the prompt response.

(I imagine you meant to say that the cities5000 table is an extract from the geonames table)

Cheers,
Yascha
