Hello - We use the geonames gazetteer in our application CLIFF which does extraction and geolocation of places from news articles --

We are currently having a problem because in the - "São Paolo" is the main way that spells the capital city of Brazil so it is being ignored by our entity extraction engine. The correct English spelling is São Paulo.

The state of São Paulo is correctly spelled in as "Estado de São Paulo"

Could you please update the spelling of São Paolo to São Paulo?

I am not sure what you mean. For a day São Paolo was spelled without tilde in the English translation and the main toponym name:

If this poses a problem to you then I strongly suggest to use the premium data extraction instead of the free one. The main advantage of the premium extract is exactly that the data goes through a releases cycle and changes like this are undone before the release.

Hi Marc

I think the TO did not write about the Saint, but about Paul.
Paul is Paolo in italian, but Paulo in portuguese.

The ADM1 is right as Paulo, the PPLA was false as Paolo.
I changed the PPLA to Paulo.

Thanks very much Urs! That's exactly what I needed.
