Hi!
Here in Semantic Computing Research Group (SeCo) we have an extensive collection of databases of place names (eg. GNS, TGN, etc.). We'd now like to map our places to the GeoNames database and possibly give our sets to your use. For example, we have 800 000 places in Finland compared to the 40 000 in GeoNames.
So the question is that do you still have the GNS id's for your GeoNames places? With the id's the mapping between the data sets should be quite trivial but without them it's going to need a little work.

Thanks! That was just what we needed. Is that file static containing the places in GeoNames at the moment or is it updated as the new places are added?
Furthermore, do you have your whole dump available in rdf?

Hi Kimmo
The file is static and contains the mapping of the latest NGA import. The NGA release a dataset once per month and we import it every couple of months.
Cheers

Hi
Seems that we also have the GNIS database like you. So do you have a same kind of mapping file for them?
Thanks.

This seemed to be exactly what we needed - I'm trying to update our data to sync from Geonames instead of GNS - but none of the IDs seem to match. For example, the ID we have for London, UK from GNS is -2601889. Not only does that not appear in nga-ids.csv, but apparently nor does the Geonames ID for London (2643743).
Am I doing something stupid?

Aha... It seems like the nga-ids and gnis_id files both contain the GNIS mappings - looks like one got overwritten with the other. Would it be possible to get the NGA mappings again?
Cheers,
Russ

Marc -
Could you please generate both cross reference files again?
The NGA->GEONAME xref and the GNIS->GEONAME xref.
Thanks In Advance.

Roberto Artigas

Greetings Marc -
It would be extremely helpful if the latest x-ref for both the NGA and USGS would be part of the regular dump. That way anyone that wants the data can use it at their own discretion.
Regards,
Roberto
BTW: Happy new year to you and all of your family.

Another bump for this. None of the above links work any more.
I have an old gazetteer imported from NGA GEOnet. I would like to convert it to geonames.org. It still has the UFI&UNI ids stored, so would great to be able to use that for the conversion. (rather than having do some sort of imperfect fuzzy matching)
