This should be easy but I can't find out how to do it. I just want to use the Webservice to give me the GeoNameID (or GeonameIDs) for a particular place name.

Taking it further, can I
- look for exact Matches only (London=London)
- Look for partial Matches (London -> London, Londonderry)
- Also search the alternate names table (Londres->London)

Would be grateful for any help!

Rgds

Thanks for the tip. It works fine. Now I'm trying to build it into an Excel Application. I always the get response "The internet site reports that a connection was established but the data is not availible."
Any ideas?

I have heard of this kind of problem with Excel before, though I don't know the reason nor a solution.
