I had gone through the <country>.txt
I have analysed few data which does not give parents information properly
e.g Liverpool Street Station which is in london and should have an different heirarchy.
but here it has this hirarchy
- Liverpool Street Station
- Engaland
- GB (united kingdom)
Is this data source(.txt ) which is provided on geonames is reliable?
Can anyone help me in making genralised hirarchy ?
How did you manage to keep this in a heirachical level to dump the intial data in the database?

The hierarchy is in the columns countryCode,admin1code, admin2code, etc
The information is not complete but all we have.
If you find missing information you can add it with the edit interface on our website : http://www.geonames.org/manual.html

i have observed the heirarchy as
- continent
- ppla
- adm 1
- adm2
-adm 3
but this heirrachy does not give the type of record whether the record is city, district , state, contituent country, province, county etc.
It is not clear what is ADM 1 ,ADM2 ,ADM3 .and very diffcult to find where it comes, in which one of the mention type.
How to distinguish between this ?

The hierarchy is as follows :
- continent
- country
- adm 1 (state in the US)
- adm 2 (county in the US)
- adm 3
- adm 4
Not all countries have four levels, some like the US have only two, others have three.

What is the geonames feed? I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean the dump? Or the web services?
