Hi,

I am build up an application which is based on your dumped data.

It's a translation project, and we'd like to provide the user as many alternate languages as available, so we decided to use your data.

The thing is, we couldn't find the alternate names for countries, states and Provinces in the dumped files.
Is it available in the dumped files or only through Web Services?

The alternate names are in the file alternateNames.txt

Hi,

I wanted info for place in Greece in the greek language.
'alternateNames.txt' does not have entries for places in Greece and the dump file provides it only in english.

Is there any other file that contains the above?

The 'alternateName.txt' file contains over 1200 names in Greek for places in Greece. What makes you think there are not places in Greece in the file?

I cannot get the link between the two files. The geoname id from the dump files does not match with any geonameid from the alternatenames file.

Is there some other way of linking it?

The geonameid is the way to link the two files. Please make sure you are joining the right column.
