For an application I'm working with the cities1000 text file dump. I find it very useful as it has no hotels, airports etc in it, just cities.

However, I was hoping to find the alternatenames dump file for the cities1000 file as well, but there is none?

Am I correct or do I miss out on something here?

You can use the total alternatenames file and delete everything that is not in the cities files.
It is very similar to the thread about alternatenames per country discussed here :
