Sorry if this question is really simple. Is there a country list web service that is regularly updated? It looks like all the services here are only related to postal codes and other stuff. What if I want just a list of country names and perhaps country codes, and not anything else.

Or maybe there is another site that has this... as long as it is reliable. I am now writing my own straight from the iso list on iso.org, but I don't think that's the preferred way.

I would like to use it on sites where I need to make a dropdown list of countries.

This service returns a list of countries :
http://ws.geonames.org/countryInfoCSV?

It also accepts a language parameter if you need the country name in a different language :
http://ws.geonames.org/countryInfoCSV?lang=hi
