Hello

Is it possible to have alternate names show up in web service query results?

I saw that the RDF query option does list alternate names, but for this query:

http://ws.geonames.org/search?q=EL%20GENEINA&maxRows=5&type=rdf

it didn't.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you
Brian T.

Hi Brian

The alternate names only show up for places where there is information available.

Example:
http://ws.geonames.org/search?q=zurich&maxRows=5&type=rdf

Cheers

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the quick reply.

So I am clear:

- Alt names won't show up in RDF output unless the info has been added/available to the RDF

- The standard web service won't return alt names

The reason I brought this all up was because I entered

EL GENEINA

into the search interface of the geonames main web page (it is in Sudan), and saw the alt names that came up for this place. So I wanted to see how to get those alt names in web service calls.

So the alt names do seem to exist for this place, but they don't seem accessible via RDF or the standard web service.

Please correct me if I am wrong, and thank you in advance for your time

Brian

Hi Brian

I was not aware of this, but it seems the rdf service only returns those alternate names with a language code. "EL GENEINA" has two alternate names without a language code and these don't show up in the rdf document.

Cheers

Marc
