Hi Everybody,
I have a question regarding the binding box web services provided by geonames.
Does geonames provide any web service which accept binding box co-ordinates (north, south, east, west) to get postal codes or wiki entries within the box similar to cities web service
For example, geonames provide following web service for cities
http://ws.geonames.org/cities?north=44.1&south=-9.9&east=-22.4&west=55.2

The wikipedia service was already ready. It was just missing a name and documentation :

How urgent is the postal code service for you? And which is your main target country?
It will take some time to determine a reasonable relevancy for each postal code record used for sorting the result. The process is running and if a particular country is urgent for you I can speed up the process.

How the relevancy is determined is described in a blog posting :

Thanks Marc

Great Work...
But I think some parameters like maxRows, style are missing in the Wikipedia Bounding box Web Service.
The maxRows is realy important parameter to get limited data
Please update me on this.

You are right the maxRows parameter was missing and has just been added.

The style parameter is not yet supported. How would you like to use a style parameter for this service?

Hi,

When I tried integrating results from Wikipedia Bounding Box Web service to google map with limited number of results(using maxRows=10), the Results are not spread evenly, but they get collected arround some point of the map area.
The algorithm similar to cities web service should be used to spread the result evenly.

Thanks
