We have used the following table to map gnis (USGS=United States Geological Survey) features to the nga feature code :

 The following features were not mapped :
 
 
 bend - curve in the course of a stream and (or) the land within the curve; a curve in a linear body of water (bottom, loop, meander).
 crossing - a place where two or more routes of transportation form a junction or intersection (overpass, underpass).
 locale - place at which there is or was human activity; it does not include populated places, mines, and dams 
        (battlefield, crossroad, camp, farm, ghost town, landing, railroad siding, ranch, ruins, site, station, windmill).
 military (historical) - place or facility formerly used for various aspects of or relating to military activity.
 other - category for miscellaneous named entities that cannot readily be placed in the other feature classes listed here.
 pillar - vertical, standing, often spire-shaped, natural rock formation (chimney, monument, pinnacle, pohaku, rock tower).
 reserve - a tract of land set aside for a specific use (does not include forests, civil divisions, parks).
 unknown - unknown.

The code "ppl" is mapped to PPLX for all PPL with 'subdivision' in the name.

The code S.CH (Church) is mapped to all entries with 'null' feature code and feature class and ending in 'Church'.

the code A.ADM2 is mapped to all administrative entries (civil) with 'County' in the name.

For the type 'locale' we are using :

S.MALL if 'Shopping Center' is part of the name.
S.RECG if 'Golf Course' is part of the name.
