Aren't they the same city? If they are, perhaps Bankok should be treated as a part of Krunthep, the same way Manhattan is a part of New York City.

Or, perhaps Krung Thep should be an alternate name for Bankgog (or vice versa).

At any rate, they are both coded as the capital of Thailand (P.PPLC).

Is there someone in the community that can speak authoritatively about the state of affairs in Thailand?

Krung Thep is indeed Bangkok. (My sister was there some weeks ago).
