How can I get the Long / Lat for a particular city. I would like the center of the city.

I've tried sending just the city as in http://ws.geonames.org/findNearbyPostalCodes?country=$country&city=&city=$city"); but obvioulsy this doesnt work.
Anyone know how to use this service for that or know of another service that does?

Thanks, and thanks for the geonames service. Without organisations like this giving people like us this service we would all be at the mercy of large internet companies who can offord things like this. Novelty and creative websites would be few and far between.

I think you need the search service :
http://www.geonames.org/export/geonames-search.html

The findNearbyPostalCodes is a reverse geocoding service and mainly used if you have GPS coordinates and want to know which city is at this GPS coordinates.
