I am attempting to construct an index whereby I scan the all countries file
and cross reference the country codes, admin1 field and admin2 fields with the contents of the Country Info and Admin1 and Admin 2 files.

The intention is to be able to "normalize" the text so that I create a record of the form:

New York City,New York,United States

from the appropriate geonames ID record.

This works correctly for New York City, by the way. It is simply an example.

However, for a number of geoname records, the admin1 and admin2 fields do not generate valid cross references either because the referenced record is not found in the admin1 or admin2 file or the contents of the admin1 or admin2 fields are not valid codes.

Would you be interested in this data? And if so, should I post it to you directly?

Hi Carey

I think you are referring to the same problem raf has posted about in this thread :
http://forum.geonames.org/gforum/posts/list/418.page

You can help raf with the compilation of the spreadsheet of the changes and we will fix adm1. As soon as we have fixed ADM1 we can start fixing ADM2.

Marc
