List of all PPL from Italy from ISTAT

Note: Data is from 2001 so it is no good for population or ADM but are good for coordinates and altitude.
Remove TIPO_LOC =4 "Case Sparse" are not PPL and not a specific point
TIPO_LOC =3 are industrial areas

Thanks a lot for the link. Do you have a link for the original file? I don't know whether we are allowed to use the data. There is some discussion here:

The discussion only mention that openstreetmap is explicitly allowed to use the data. The problem with this is that openstreetmap does not have an open license and we are not allowed to use osm data. We need data with more liberal and open licenses.

I have seen this. This part sounds like some kind of attributions license, which is ok for us. The problem is in the second phrase on the gfoss page
"Salvo diverso specifico accordo, invece, non è permessa la riproduzione, anche parziale, a fini di commercializzazione e in generale ogni utilizzazione dell'opera che possa configurare una lesione del diritto d'autore."
