Hi Marc!

I'm totally thrilled about the geonames free services! As db admin for the redesign project of the female:pressure website I want to use geonames for our project.

Trying to understand the admin code system I was looking for combinations of
iso2 and admin1-5 codes in feature class P, where no corresponding entry with feature code ADM1-5 exists.

Amongst others I found Malakof (6621047), a populated place in Vanuatu, with an admin1 value of 14, but no corresponding ADM1 entry.

The link https://www.geonames.org/6621047/malakof.html shows 'Vanuatu VU ยป Shepherd 14'

Where does the value "Shepherd 14" come from?

Actually Malakof is on the island of Makura which is part of the Sheperd Islands, which are part of the Vanatua admin1 area with value 18 (Shefa, id 2208267).

All over allCountries.txt and hierarchy.txt I could not find any clue for "Shepherd 14".

Thank you for helping me to understand!

Best regards
Andreas

Have fun
Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas

It was a former administrative division, as you see here
https://www.geonames.org/VU/administrative-division-vanuatu.html
When the feature was added an old boundary was somewhere in the system and the old code has been added.

I have fixed it.

Best Regards

Marc
