Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help me out at all please, looking against GeoNames data, filtering on "FeatureCode" I think it is for "AIRP" (airport), it returns a large number of airports.

Is there a way to only return certain types of airports like only major or international airports.

For example London GB - shows RAF Northolt, but this isnt able to be used for major passenger departures.

If I want to find the closest major / international airport I currently cant see away the data will return me a difference.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

you will need to join the main Geonames with the AlternateNames table, and extract the airports based on their ICAO code. This is probably the "type" of airports you are looking for.

Alternate names ICAO code will also lead you to many minor airports as well as ICAO is a standard for navigation more than travel. To get a better list of MAJOR airports look in alternate names for Iata codes as these are used for airline passengers so heathrow will have ICAO of EGLL but important it has an Iata code of LHR
