Hello,
I'm not sure what are the GeoNames standards for romanization of locations in Ukraine and Belarus (as well as other countries with national language written in Cyrillic). I'm convinced that GeoNames standards should follow national standards of the individual countries, perhaps with a few exceptions for places which have name well established in English language. National standards were accepted by United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names and Wikipedia. Moreover, in 2019 Ukrainian national transliteration was accepted by BGN/PCGN. (Google Maps is very misleading and does not follow any standard consequently).

Tables for romanization in national standards are available for instance here :
Belarusian:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instruction_on_transliteration_of_Belarusian_geographical_names_with_letters_of_Latin_script
Ukrainian (see National Standard from 2010)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanization_of_Ukrainian#cite_note-Decision_no._55-21

According to these standards, for example, "Kopayhorod" in Ukraine should be rather "Kopaihorod" and "Ovseya" in Belarus should be "Asvieja".

If geoname admins agree with such position — is there any way to batch update names?
Best regards
Tomasz
