Hi folks,

I've been making use of this excellent resource for some time, and I'm starting to get more involved. I'd like to learn enough to contribute well.

I did a search in cities500.txt for "Campo Bom, Brazil"; it wasn't there. A neighboring city, "Novo Hamburgo", was. I'm trying to understand the difference between these. When I search on GeoNames, Campo Bom comes up as a second-order administrative division; Novo Hamburgo comes up as a "Populated Place", which I take to mean a city. They both have populations in the thousands, and I've verified that Novo Hamburgo's boundaries do not include Campo Bom.

When I look in Wikipedia, they're both referred to as cities, or sometimes towns.

Is there some compelling reason why Campo Bom would not be considered a populated place, and appear in cities500?
