Hello!

I wanted to know how GeoNames is managing the issue of cities overlapping multiple counties.
Take for example "Atlanta, GA" which is overlapping Fulton and DeKalb county.
or "Aurora, IL" which is overlapping 4 counties (Kane, DuPage, Will, Kendall).
Is there a way to retrieve that kind of information with the free version of database.
is it maybe available with the paid version or through the zipcode database ?

thank you for your help

Hi

The info is in the hierarchy file.

You see it here, click on hierarchy->parents:

Thank you for the quick response. Indeed, you are right about that page but it is my fault. I wasn't specific enough in my question.

I was talking about the downloadable US zip file and the way that for each city there is only one reference to an admin2_code for one admin1_code (one PPL -> one County -> one State).

So in the case of Aurora IL, it only shows Kane County (089) as 'Parent'.

Is there anyway to get a downloadable file with a complete dataset so it would reflect the page you pointed previously?

Or, is the information available through the API?...

Thank you
