Hello,

The Loire Valley is a UNESCO listed site. http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/933

I see your database connect it to the French Région Centre-Val de Loire and also center it in this Région.

The corrections to make are:
The Loire Valley is situated in two French Régions: Région Pays de la Loire and Région Centre-Val de Loire.
The French Département concerned in the Région Pays de la Loire is the Département de Maine-et-Loire.
The historic center of the Loire valley is approximately situated at the meeting point of the two Régions, in Montsoreau. Maybe a second center needs to be added there, to give a more precise definition of this site.

All my very best,

Philippe49730

Hi Phillippe

Thanks. I have removed the adm1 code for the Loire Valley.
Do you know whether the boundaries are available? Or can the area be defined with a list of ADM4 (communes)?

I have moved the posting in the thread 'Discussion of GeoNames Toponyms' as it is not an administrative division.

Best Regards

Marc

Dear Marc,

Here is an official map from the Val de Loire Mission: https://www.valdeloire.org/Carte

There are 153 communes concerned.

Do you want me to list them all?

Best,

Philippe

that would be cool, we could then add them as children of the region and build the boundary from the commune boundaries.

Are all the communes completly with the region? Otherwise the list would not work as well.

Dear Marc,

The problem is that Loire Valley is not an administrative entity. The 153 communes (towns) are situated in the administrative régions Pays de la Loire or Centre Val de Loire. Meaning there are two branches at the beginning of the administrative tree to build this zone.

Code:
Pays de la Loire Centre Val de Loire (= Régions)

Maine-et-Loire Loir-et-Cher (= Départements)
                                 Indre-et-Loire
                                       Loiret
[_______________________________]

                      Loire Valley
                      Val de Loire

Is this understandable? Is it possible to make it fit with the software?
If not, Is it then possible to only enter the communes?

Very best,

Philippe

Dear Marc,

I see the machine made my diagram ununderstandable...
Basically, one part of the Région Pays de la Loire + one part of the Région Centre Val de Loire are both giving parts of départements to form the Loire Valley Zone, 153 communes are constituting this zone.

Best,

Hi Phillipe

I have added your tree into 'code' marker. Like this it is displayed better.

I have also added the four departements as parent of the Loire Valley feature:
http://www.geonames.org/2997862/val-de-loire.html
The system does not allow to add two admin hierarchies in the admin tree. It needs to be modelled in the additional hierarchy.

With the communes we could add them as children and compute the boundaries for the Loire Valley.

Best Regards

Marc
