Hi there,

We are building a system for named entity recognition and grounding. Our aim is to reference toponyms from texts to GeoName UUIDs.
- The API requests for reverse geocoding (api.geonames.org/extendedFindNearby) return a "geonameId" for each entry.
- It is possible to get Features for entities using ids (api.geonames.org/get).

It seems, these Ids are consistent over time. However, we have an old Geonames data dump with ids that do not match the current ones.

Are the new Ids consistent? If they might be changed again, how often does this happen?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Marcel

I am wondering about the same thing. Did you ever get a response any other way than forum?

Another thing is that the updates to the database is daily, but you need to update your db every day and iif you miss a day, then you can't figure out what happened in that missed day. If there is a history of some sort?

Can you give examples to what IDs were changed?
Did you ever find a satisfactory answer to your question? I have a similar dilemma now...
Thanks!
