Hi everybody,

We use a several year old dump of the GeoNames-DB for NER. It seems to me that the GeoName-Ids have changed since we downloaded the dump:
For example, in our dump the toponym "Blindenhorn" has the id 530072. Searching for this toponym in the current GeoNames API, we find the id 2661470.

How often are the ids changed? If we download the latest dump, how long can we be sure that the ids in our dump correspond to the online database?

Thanks for your info!

Hi

The IDs never change, you must be using a different database.

Best Regards

I sent an e-mail to Mark Wick. He said that The Ids never change.

geokokos, you scared me
But I think it is easy to check that you are having a different database.

Returns 1 result, your post here if you search blinbderhorn with the id you provided
https://www.google.fi/search?q=Blindenhorn+530072&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&ei=fy2jV-RMktnwB8nTquAO

If you google to actual ID then you get many results...
https://www.google.fi/search?q=Blindenhorn&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b-ab&gfe_rd=cr&ei=XC2jV5qKFZLZ8AfJ06rgDg#q=Blindenhorn+2661470

This tells me that the ID exists in your db only

Thanks!
