Hi,

is it possible or does anyone know where to get a database dump of the cities, villages etc of ALL countries only (only P.PPL)?

I'm running a travel blog site and would like o be able to offer my users a localization tool with Google Maps, to show near what city they are currently located in the world.

I'm not very familiar with databases and programming in general. I'm just trying to figure out if what I'd like to do is actually possible.

Thanks!!!

Kai

Hi Kai

I think the cities files are what you are looking for :

cities1000.zip : all cities with a population > 1000 (ca 80.000)
cities5000.zip : all cities with a population > 5000 (ca 40.000)
cities15000.zip : all cities with a population > 15000 (ca 20.000)

http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/

Cheers
