Geonames Dear webmaster,
Good morning! please some information of how often the database is updated XML webservice? Daily? Monthly? Looking forward to receiving your cordial return!

I've been following the site for a while and recently decided to add a place or two that I've come across that wasn't represented in your database.

The xml or JSON cities webservice hasn't shown these changes, however.

I recently added a populated place: http://www.geonames.org/maps/google_10.667_-14.6.html including location, elevation, and population based upon wikipedia data available here. I became interested in this place after reading an article and decided to check it out here, where I found that it did not exist.

It is not listed when calling the xml webservice using this function http://ws.geonames.org/cities?north=-14.5&south=-14.7&east=-69.35&west=-69.55&lang=de&style=full though I do get back a few ppl's in that area that have existed prior to my changes.

Just curious if the cities lists are updated in real time or if its just a few of the services. If they aren't updated real-time, when are they? If they are updated real-time, and I suspect they are, what am I doing wrong and how can I correct that?

The real-time update was interrupted for about 10 days. For the updates that have gone lost during this time a full db copy is required and it will take some days.

I've added 2 reserves, but I can't get the changes from the API.

the immediate update is currently not active. the free api is updated once or twice per month.

I noticed there was the update of webservice database today or yesterday.

The webservice "http://api.geonames.org/hierarchy?" is working well, i.e. it uses updated database. But the webservice "http://api.geonames.org/children?" seems to be not updated yet.

For example, I have two places:
- the father "Mokotów" with geonameid 764484 (it's a populated place),
- the child "Stary Mokotów" with geonameid 8425831 (it's a section of populated place).

When I run "hierarchy" webservice on the child, like below:
http://api.geonames.org/hierarchy?geonameId=8425831&username=demo&style=short
the XML result is ok, i.e. it shows information about the father "Mokotów".

But when I run "children" webservice on the father, like below:
http://api.geonames.org/children?geonameId=764484&username=demo&style=short
the XML result is not ok, i.e. it doesn't show information about the child "Stary Mokotów".

Is it possible that the "hierarchy" webservice is yet updated and the "children" webservice isn't yet updated? That would be the solution of such an incosistency. Or maybe I'm doing sth wrong?

Are there any special days when the update of webservice's DB is being performed? Sth like, e.g., 1st of each month?

Especially I mean "hierarchy" and "chldren" webservice's DB...

There is no special day. It happens once or twice and it can even happen that not all servers are update simultaneously.

How often do you update the paid webservice DB? On Jan 03, 2013 I added the PPL "Kopaonik" (geonameid: 8436574) and it is still not listed by using "search" or "get".

Here it is listed, though:

The premium databases are updated once per month.
The current version is available at current.geonames.net
