I've noticed a few incorrect or non-existent place names around Melbourne. I've tried deleting some of them but you sensibly don't give newcomers that level of access. I also can't move locations.

Take Brunswick as an example.

It's no longer it's own council area, but it consists of Brunswick, East Brunswick and West Brunswick. There were also historically a North Brunswick and a South Brunswick Railway Station, but these were renamed in the 1950s.

Geonames listss these Administrative Divisions:

1 A North Brunswick
-37.7666667144.9666667 Australia, Victoria administrative division S 37° 46' 0'' E 144° 58' 0''
2 A Brunswick West
-37.7833333144.9333333 Australia, Victoria administrative division S 37° 47' 0'' E 144° 56' 0''
3 A Brunswick South
-37.7833333144.95 Australia, Victoria administrative division S 37° 47' 0'' E 144° 57' 0''
4 A Brunswick Lower
-37.7833333144.9666667 Australia, Victoria administrative division S 37° 47' 0'' E 144° 58' 0''
5 A Brunswick East
Brunswick East-37.7833333144.9666667 Australia, Victoria administrative division S 37° 47' 0'' E 144° 58' 0''

...and...

6 P Brunswick
Brunswick-37.7666667144.9666667 Australia, Victoria populated place
population 19,867 S 37° 46' 0'' E 144° 58' 0''

Brunswick Lower
This has never existed as far as I can tell. The only references to it seem to lead back to this site.
GeoNames positions it in Princes Hill / Carlton North which is the wrong suburb. Since it doesn't exist I suggest deletion.

North Brunswick and Brunswick South
These only ever existed as railway stations and never were administrative divisions.
GeoNames positions Brunswick South in the middle of Royal Park, well south of the southern border of Brunswick.
I suggest deletion.

Brunswick West
GeoNames positions this in the wrong suburb - Flemington. Google gives -37.764829; 144.943778 - Cnr Victoria St & Melville Rd, Brunswick West which sounds reasonable.

Brunswick East
GeoNames positions this in Princes Hill / Carlton North again. Google gives -37.772850; 144.973254 - cnr Glenlyon Rd & Jenkin St, Brunswick East which also sounds reasonable.

Brunswick
Does Brunswick itself also merit an entry as an Administrative Division as well as a Populated Place?

See:

I can post corrections here as I find them if that's appropriate. OTOH I'm probably fairly trustworthy, so you could also give me the permissions to do it myself. I use the same user name (almost - Moilleadóir) on the English & Irish Wikipedia & Wiktionary and I'm an admin on the (admittedly fairly moribund) Irish Wiktionary (http://ga.wiktionary.org).

Thanks a lot Seán.

I have increased your userlevel and deleted the wrong/obsolete records.

In general I have the impression those are suburbs/neighbourhoods and more like 'section of populated places' (PPLX).
The featurecode ADMD is used when we don't know the real level it should have. Normally the admin divisions are hierarchically with the corresponding admincode used by the children. If they are to be considered admin divisions then probably on level 3 (with county on level2). It would probably make sense to cleanup the counties first before going deeper. In order to cleanup the counties an official list would be useful (better even with coordinates or even as polygon)

Best

Marc
