the service is down due to a disk crash. It will take some hours to exchange the disk.

Some downtime estimation (hour, days, weeks?) would be nice. These services are of great value, many 3rd parties depends on them...

Yeah, same here. Not trying to rub salt in the wound, and I'm sure that you guys at geonames are as stressed about this as anyone, but when is the service expected to be restored?

The faulty disk was replaced but the server continues to switch into read-only mode after a couple of minutes under load.
I fear some more hardware needs to be replaced and the server needs to be setup from scratch. This will take around 2 days.

It is still down - can someone fix this issue?
As others said - a lot of 3rd parties are very very dependent with it.
Thanks,
Roee

Is the web service still down as at 1548 UTC on 9-Apr-2010. I cannot get altitude, weather or Wikipedia data. When is the service likely to be available?

Uh-oh - that doesn't sound all that good...
Good luck with your trouble-shooting and keep up the good work!

Cool, thanks for the heads up on the status. You guys rock. If I ever have the ability to donate significant financial resources to the project, I will. Could get the system to be more redundant. Perhaps even distributed. That would be cool.
Thanks for your efforts!

On 7th April we were told 'a few hours' for the fix.
It's now 10th April. Can we have a realistic ETA please?
