Hi there,

I need to generate a location breakdown for towns / cities in the UK. I know both lat/lng and name on input.

Getting an admin hierarchy is obvious, but it would not include regions (RGN region an area distinguished by one or more observable physical or cultural characteristics).

I don't mind making more than one call to retrieve and combine the data (i'm using REST apis), but I can't really find a way of finding out what RGN a given town belongs to.

I'd like to be able to tell what RGN a given place belongs to. For instance, I'd like to get Lake District region for a town of, say, Penrith.

It'd probably suffice if I could look up RGN by lat/lng of the place.

Any help appreciated,
Mac

GeoNames does have a feature for Lake District:
http://www.geonames.org/2645022/lake-district.html

but no other information, like boundaries etc. It is therefore impossibe to know which places are within this region.

Regards

Marc
